If you follow tech news, then you know AI has been a hot topic since it first became mainstream in 2022. We commonly hear extreme opinions ranging from ‘AI is a scam and has no real use’ to ‘AI will take everyone’s job and society is going to collapse’ – we land somewhere in the middle!

The cool thing is – AI has been available to most people for about 4 years now (time flies!). So, we don’t have to guess what AI’s effect has been on the Power Platform / Dynamics 365 space so far – we can speak from our experience.

The biggest effect we have observed is a decrease in overall development time when building solutions.

AI can be used to assist in all aspects of Power Platform development including JavaScript, Plugins, integrations/migrations, model-driven apps, canvas apps, Power BI, and even Power Automate! We see some fear in the industry that Power Platform developers and consultants may become obsolete, but that’s not what we’re seeing so far.

AI still needs experienced oversight.

Although AI speeds up development significantly, it’s not reliable enough to trust on its own. It frequently will get things wrong or misunderstand its task. Even the best, modern AI models fail to self-govern and ‘think outside the box’ like a human can in some situations. We still see AI introduce regressions into existing code, struggle over solutions, or misunderstand what the human is asking. Not every time, but frequently enough that it needs to be accounted for. Therefor…

The developer’s role is changing.

A Power Platform developer / Dynamics 365 consultant’s value is becoming less tied to their ability to implement technical tasks and more dependent on their solution architecture skills, overall platform knowledge, and ability to check AI output for quality and reliability. In some regards, we can think of AI agents as ‘junior’ developers that need code reviewed by a human (senior).

The bottom line.

Oranova has seen a lot of changes come as a result of AI in the Power Platform space, but we’re not scared of what the future holds. We’re excited! Because AI speeds up development so significantly, we have seen an increase in demand for Power Platform / Dynamics 365 projects in 2026. Projects are getting completed more quickly, for less money. As a result, companies that have been sitting on the sideline are now deciding to jump into their digital transformation.
